The route of Ice Power Helsinki City 5, approved by the authorities and published in January, will change. Helsinki, its streets and other infrastructure are developing fast, and in the future will offer even better conditions for runners as well.
The large-scale renovation of the main street Mannerheimintie, starting in March, will have a significant impact also on pedestrian and bicycle routes in the coming spring, and that is why a new route has been planned for Ice Power Helsinki City 5. Just a moment ago, it seemed that there was no obstacle to using the route published in January, but the situation has changed after the contractor of the renovation project was able to refine the schedule.
A new route has now been planned for May 2023 Ice Power Helsinki City 5, which focuses on the north side of the Olympic Stadium. As in the to the previously published plans, the start is on Mäntymäentie in front of the Olympic Stadium Square, where the other Helsinki City Running Day races also start.
The new route still offers fast straights, and there is less ascent than in the 2022 route. The route goes through the beautiful Alppipuisto, and bypasses the most important landmarks of the Töölö Sports Park: Vauhtitie, Eläintarha Sports field, Töölö football pitches, Bolt Arena and the statues of Lasse Viren and Paavo Nurmi – reaching its finish line at the magnificent Olympic Stadium.
