BRAND NEW ROUTE FOR HELSINKI CITY 5

Helsinki City 5 new route

Good news for Helsinki City 5 runners! We announced earlier this winter that the routes of the Helsinki City Running Day on 17 May 2025 will get off to a great start, with the first kilometers being run along Mannerheimintie, the “mains street” of the whole country. This change applies not only to long distance runs but also to the Helsinki City 5 route.

The starting point of the 5K race will remain on Mäntymäentie, but otherwise the route will be completely new. After the start, the five-kilometer run route turns west along Helsinginkatu. From the street corner at Ooppera, the runners will accelerate south along the west side lanes of Mannerheimintie. Mannerheimintie has plenty of room for the growing number of participants, and it will be easy to find room for overtaking other runners in this fast-paced race.

After passing the Parliament house, the runners will descend to Baana and underpass Mannerheimintie. In the city center, you will run around the Oodi Central Library, Sanomatalo and the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, after which you will start your return towards the Olympic Stadium. The return run will be on the pedestrian lane on the eastern side of Mannerheimintie, which is in great condition after the massive renovation of Mannerheimintie.

The route of the Helsinki City 5 Walk (start without timing), which starts 5 minutes after the runners, will be directed mostly to the pedestrian lane also when proceeding southwards.

There is one water station on the route, approximately halfway along the route.
