Helsinki City Run HALF MARATHON

Welcome to the largest half marathon in Finland! The OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run half marathon is something that you need to experience for yourself on May 17th, 2025. OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run half marathon has been the kick off for the summer season since the year 1994 and has always been the most popular half marathon of Finland. Come and enjoy the beautiful route around the capital of Finland.

Age Groups:

OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run will award prizes in the following series:

W/M Open Class, W/M40, W/M50, W/M60

Runners who are at least 40 years old in the year of the event race automatically in the correct Age group according to their date of birth, when the “Age group” is selected as the series. The Age group is determined by the age on December 31 of the year of the event.

All 40-year-olds automatically race in the General category.

Prize money is awarded only in the General series. If the participant wishes, he can participate in the General series instead of his own Age group, but not in other Age groups.

Prizes

Each runner finishing within 3 hours receives a OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run finisher medal. A diploma can be printed from your own result page after the official results have been published.

Best male and female runners will be awarded with prize money.  In case the winning time goes under 1.06.15 (men) and 1.15.00 (women) the winners prize will be raised by 500 euros.

3. 300 EUR

The top 5 runners in the open class and the winner of each age group will be rewarded with a special prize.

Note! The top 3 runners of the open class will be awarded directly after the race at the finish area. Other awarded runners shall collect their prizes from the Race Office at the Olympic Stadium.

The event t-shirt is included in the entry fee until June 26th, 2024. From June  27th onwards, you can purchase the event t-shirt for 17,90 euros when you register (23 euros at the event).

Each runner must pick up their running number from the Race Office at the Olympic Stadium before the run. Your friend may also pick it up for you with your QR code. Please check the Race Office opening hours from the general info.

Please make sure that you have your QR code available when you enter the race office. Your friend can also pick up your bib number for you with your QR code.

Note! OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run half marathon bib numbers must be picked up one hour prior to your start! 

There are five refreshment stations along the OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run route. These stations offer sports drink (Maxim Sports Drink Orange) and water. At the refreshment stations, sports drink is offered first. Stations are located at:
Kellosaarenranta Street (3,6 km)
Lauttasaari sport park (7,2 km)
Lehtisaari (9,7 km)
Meilahdenpuisto (Meilahti park) (13,6 km)
Tilkanvierto (17,8 km)

The route for OP Uusimaa will be published in January, 2025.

 

The event area (start, Expo and finish) for Finland’s largest half marathon OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run is located at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.

Route
The OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run half marathon route is now flatter and faster, with even more seaside scenery! Runners of the half marathon will cross the finish line at the iconic Helsinki Olympic Stadium.

The route is marked properly at cross roads, and the route will go straight if no marking is provided. Kilometre signage is visible at every kilometre point. Race officials and the police will oversee the runners and the traffic. OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run half marathon is an AIMS certificated race.

After crossing the finish line runners are given their finisher medal and they can continue to the post-race refreshment area. The post-race refreshment area serves runners with a variety of drinks and snacks. Unfortunately, special diets cannot be taken into consideration.

The start takes place at Mäntymäentie, next to the Paavo Nurmi statue. Runners are divided into six (6) starting waves with one wave starting every 10 min. The first wave starts at 2:20 p.m.

All runners will be informed about their starting time by e-mail about one week prior to the race. Runners are divided into waves according to their estimated times given whilst registering for the event. Runners can also find their starting time and wave from their bib number. All runners need to make sure that they start in the group (corral) assigned to them. 

The OP Uusimaa Helsinki City Run results are based on runners’ net times (time from crossing start line to crossing finish line). Therefore, runners do not need to rush to the start line, as their timing will not start before they crossed the start line. Note! Runners shall not cover their bib number with their hands neither when crossing the start nor the finish line.

3rd start at 2:40 p.m.
4th start at 2:50 p.m.
5th start at 3:00 p.m. 
6th start at 3:10 p.m.

Pacers:

HCR half marathons has pacers who run at a steady pace at certain target times and help runners reach their goals.
